Planned Parenthood of the Southern Finger Lakes (PPSFL) was created by the merger of two affiliates in 2004. Both Planned Parenthood of Tompkins County and Planned Parenthood of the Southern Tier were founded in 1968 to ensure access to safe reproductive and sexual health for all. Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood and the birth control movement, envisioned a world in which every child would be a wanted child. With roots in the Southern Tier, Margaret Sanger laid the building blocks on which PPSFL now stands.
