Retired & Senior Volunteer Program

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Chemung County began in 1973, utilizing the volunteers who had worked together after the devastating flood of 1972. The commitment to community continues today.

RSVP in Chemung County boasts an enrollment of 1,012 volunteers ranging in age from 55 to 95 years, 29 percent male and 71 percent female. This distribution is higher than the national average of 22 percent male and 78 percent female.

Volunteer assignments range from serving on boards of directors, volunteer coordinator in a local public school and a national museum, writing and presentation of skits addressing the perils of mixing drugs and alcohol, how to talk to your doctor, breast and prostate cancer and hearing problems.
