The Chemung County Mental Hygiene Department has multiple responsibilities and functions. As the office of the County Mental Hygiene Commissioner, it has oversight responsibilities to all agencies providing care in the following areas:

• Mental Hygiene
• Mental Retardation
• Developmental Disabilities
• Substance Abuse

All State funding and licensing to agencies within the Chemung County area flow through the offices of the Mental Hygiene Department. This department is responsible for ensuring that all relevant agencies adhere to published regulations and standards of practice.
