The high incidence of low birthweight
Incidence of low birthweight in Chemung County is 6.6 percent. While there is certainly a relation to teen pregnancy, there appears to be a stronger correlation to income. Incidence provokes concern for the health of low birthweight infants that continues as these children mature. This problem is particularly vexing, given the model programs that have been developed to address low birthweight.
