Access to dental care, particularly for Medicaid and indigent populations
The only dental care resource serving Chemung County Medicaid and indigent populations presently is the Chemung County Dental Clinic, which at the time of the Health Network's formation was requiring a six-month wait for first exam appointments. The Clinic reported a waiting list at that time of more than 400 individuals. The waiting period involved contributes to the development of acute dental problems in many cases, which in turn only lead to longer waits and emergency department visits related to dental health.
