Access to primary care
Chemung County maintains a very successful Medicaid Managed Care program. Local physician referral services for primary care are operated by Twin Tiers Physician Management and Arnot Ogden Medical Center's Health on Demand (for Arnot Ogden's primary care physicians only) with the goal of assuring access to basic primary care.
Despite the existence of these resources, residents seeking primary care still report difficulty in locating a physician able to accept new patients. Most local physicians have closed their practices and are unable to handle new patients due to their extremely busy conditions.
